Mr. Oaiya is responsible for WACREN technical assets, the evolution of the network, counselling and supporting members on technical issues and supervising WACREN capacity building activities. Although Mr. Oaiya holds a degree in Pharmacy since 1989, he has been working with IT since the late 1980s and earning a life with IT since 1992. He has been project manager, network manager and system developer in different IT sectors offering consultancy with a focus on academic networks in the last decade.

Abstract:
The growth of African NRENs has been slowed by access to affordable highspeed broadband connectivity. There has however been dramatic change in recent years and the presentation is an overview of the ICT infrastructure and connectivity options now available. It describes some exciting initiatives aimed at closing the gap that has stymied productivity and kept Africa outside the mainstream of knowledge and information production.
